Choosing where to eat with other people usually starts with a negotiation. A market settles it differently: everyone goes to a different counter and meets back at one table. Lenexa Public Market works on that plan, and the City of Lenexa owns and operates it.

The market’s visitor information lists local food merchants, communal and outdoor seating, and an event space with a demonstration kitchen. Three of those four things are about staying after you have paid. That is the smart part: the hour after lunch has somewhere to go.

The merchant directory includes, in alphabetical order, African Dream Cuisine, KC Döner, Saap Saap Noodles and Sohaila’s Kitchen. That range is the case for bringing people who never agree on dinner.

We have not eaten here, judged the cooking or checked prices, allergens or who is trading on a given day. Anything your meal depends on is a question for the business itself.

The market is at 8750 Penrose Lane. Merchant hours vary, so the building being open does not tell you which counter is serving; the market’s merchant schedule does.
