Our advice for the Nelson-Atkins this week: see less. Choose one work or one collection, give it your full attention, and leave the rest for another visit. With no ticket to pay off, there is no reason to rush the whole building.

The museum lists free general admission. Nonmembers must check in, either online in advance or in person; the visitor guidance we read does not make advance booking mandatory. Members scan their membership card instead.

For October 5–11, the posted regular indoor hours are Monday 10 a.m.–5 p.m.; closed Tuesday and Wednesday; Thursday and Friday 10 a.m.–9 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday 10 a.m.–5 p.m. The museum warns of rolling gallery closures in the Bloch Building during 2026, so the collection you came for may be off view.

Free admission may not cover parking, special exhibitions or programs. The museum’s accessibility page says most public indoor areas are wheelchair accessible, but the Sculpture Park has brick-paved paths, inclines and stairs. We have not inspected a route through the grounds. The museum lends wheelchairs and walkers free, first come, first served.
